Another Beard on Bread pick. An easy if not ridiculously easy make. Brown Bread. You don’t even have to knead it y’all! (Do I sound authentic?) Be sure not to overbake for it will dry out very easily.
Put 4 cups of whole wheat flour (try stone ground) in a bowl in a warm oven (the lowest setting your oven goes, or if it is gas just the pilot will do), everything needs to be warm when you start. Dissolve one tablespoon and a 1/2 teaspoon and 2 tablespoons of molasses in a 1/2 cup of warm water. Once proofed add another 1/2 cup of warm water. Combine the flour, the yeast mixture and 1 tablespoon of salt. Add enough more warm water to make it a wet and sticky dough (about one cup). Put into a well buttered bread pan and cover until it’s about 1/3 bigger than it started. Preheat the oven to 450 and bake for just under an hour. Once it sounds hollow turn the oven off and finish it without the bread pan for 20 minutes.
Brown Bread. Good and good for you.
