planning

This summer I made an attempt to plot things out a bit differently- trying to sketch out a little dotted line along our treasure map of a year.  I wanted our days to look a lot the same once “school” started, to keep the number of unfilled hours enough to let boredom seep in and the real creativity burst out, but not so long that the inevitable sibling squabbles get the best of me.  So I planned.  I planned and planned and planned.  And I really loved it!  The year began and so did we- a little morning routine lining our day with family time and routine and that magic Waldorf-y word- rhythm.  And lo and behold its working.

It is simple really, we just start the day off with chores and a walk, head back for some handwork, do a bit of math and writing and before we know it its lunch and everyone scatters in their own direction.

Good planning really does open up your time for more.  I am able to read again (and not just after hours), I’m finding myself with knitting in my hands almost every day, and the children are fighting just a bit less.  Seems good to me.  And planning has even led to some planned trips!  Camping!  Its been a beautiful August and September so far.  We are right in the thick of birthday season- four under our own roof this month- and of course fair season!  Today marks day two of the wonderful Worlds Fair, and I can’t wait to report back on it at the end.

  1. There is nothing I love more than a Mamarise post, first thing in the morning. Beautiful homeschool intention and so many sweet faces!
